Newsletters

The Youth Transition Action Teams Initiative publishes bimonthly issues of the Transitions: Team in Action , which feature articles about local, state, and national research and initiatives supporting foster youth transitions and highlights quality practices of organizations that serve foster youth. Also featured are timely legislative updates from the state and federal level. New issues of the newsletter are posted on a regular basis, and you can view the archived issues below .

Transitions: Teams in Action Latest Issue - Volume 2, October 2005

The new issue of TRANSITION: Teams in Action, the newsletter of the Youth Transition Action Team, is now available.

Here is a preview of Volume 2 of TRANSITION: Teams in Action

  • Hot Topics: Other articles cover the recently released Chapin Hall report on its longitudinal study of transitioning foster youth; Philadelphia's new liaison for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and question in youth; the California Youth Connection's recent policy conference; Hurricane relief and rebuilding resources; and planning activities and resources related to the Mental Health Services Act implementation.
  • On the Ground - Innovative Projects Serving Foster Youth: This issue features activities from two YTAT counties, San Mateo and San Luis Obispo. In San Mateo, the Youth Transition Action Team and the Center for Venture Philanthropy (CVP) are collaborating on the CVP initiative called Fostering the Future, designed to improve transition outcomes for youth living in foster or kin care in Redwood City and East Palo Alto. In San Luis Obispo, the county has established a procedure for streamlining information sharing, which includes training case workers on privacy rights, establishing Multidisciplinary Teams of people from different agencies, and creating a process for clients to give their consent.
  • State and National Legislation Update: This issue features information on pending foster care legislation in California as well as an update on the federal budget and on foster care financing.
  • News about the Youth Transition Action Team Initiative: Teams from participating counties share updates.
  • Resources: Each issue contains information about and links to new publications, upcoming conferences & events, and to timely web links.
