New Ways has developed and delivered customized workshops and trainings to support a variety of audiences. Engagement Specialists* across the nation have benefited from support in utilizing tools and building competency in strategies for engaging workplace partners.

The following archive includes notes, materials, handouts, and other supportive materials from workshops and content calls held in the last couple of years.

Engaging Employers and Workplace Partners

Engaging workplace partners is a critical part of building a successful youth-serving program and making real connections for youth. This series delivered by New Ways to Work staff helps organizations learn valuable frameworks and tools for engaging employers and workplace partners.

February & April 2005 - Workshops (South San Francisco, Fresno, and Irvine, CA)
These workshops examined both organizational structures and individual engagement strategies. Workshops were facilitated by Steve Trippe, President, and Chandra Larsen, Project Associate, of New Ways to Work.

March 16, 2004 - Content Call
The focus of this call was "The Role of the Engagement Specialist." New Ways staff discussed tools and strategies of successful Engagement Specialists, with a brief review of the four easy steps of successfully engaging employers, labor, government, community organizations, and others. Local practitioner panelists included Theresa Milan, Deputy Director for Linking Education and Economic Development, and Rashida Young, Project Coordinator for Youth Opportunity Movement, Los Angeles. The moderator was Molly Wertz, Project Manager, New Ways to Work.

February 3, 2004 - Content Call
This content call focused on the "Characteristics of Effective Organizations." Quality youth-serving programs and systems successfully engage workplace partners and employers in their work. Panelists included Ellen Lewis, Communities and Schools for Career Success (CS 2 ) Community Entrepreneur with Petaluma City Schools, Christopher Smith, Intermediary Network Member and Partnership and Employer Organizing Director with Boston Private Industry Council, and Lisa Garcia-Gleissner with the Riverside Youth Council
Riverside County Economic Development Agency. The call was moderated by Steve Trippe, President, New Ways to Work.
